Five Week Throwing Course Price £200 All levels 6th Oct - 3rd Nov 2019 This is a Five Week Throwing Course starting on Sunday 6th October. The course will comprise of five, consecutive, two and a half hour sessions and will take place on Sunday afternoons from 3.00pm to 5.30pm. Each person will have their own dedicated wheel for the entire length of the course. At the end of the course, each person will have up to five items to take home. All materials, firings and tuition are included in the price of the course. Outline Week 1 - This session will involve intensive teaching. You will be taught, step by step, how to throw a pot on the wheel. The teacher will demonstrate how to prepare your clay for throwing. You will then be shown how to centre, open, and pull up the walls of your pot. There will be plenty of practice time. Week 2 - This is a chance to build on what you learned on week one. You will be encouraged to produce more complex forms with the aid of shaping tools and also to throw taller forms. Week 3 - In this session, you will turn (trim your pots) on the wheel, using a variety of tools. Turning is the process of removing excess clay to refine the shape of your pot. It is also the process by which you will make a foot ring (the trimmed foot at the bottom of a pot or vessel). You will also learn to make and attach handles to some of the items made on week two. This may be a mug or a jug. Week 4 - You will decorate several of your pots with slips and underglaze. You may also wish to explore drawing and line making techniques such as Sgraffito or Mishima. Week 5 - You will be introduced to glazing and will spend this last session glazing all your pots. You will be able to collect your work, two to three weeks after the completion of the course. Collection dates will be posted on the Sak Beh Pottery website. Please check regularly. All classes take place at Sak Beh Studio Pottery, 3 Garnham Street, Stoke Newington, N16 7JA.
